"YTB may well be the future of retail travel sales and deserves close study by the industry- not condemnation," Phil Davidoff, president of Davidoff Associates and a former president of the American Society of Travel Agents (ASTA) told Travel Agent in an interview.

Both Phil and his wife/partner, Doris Davidoff, taught two seminars at YTB's recent national convention in St. Louis and offered praise for the quality of the estimated 15,000 to 20,000 agents who attended.

"The quality, degree of interest in travel as a profession and the awareness of the travel industry's need for professionalism was clear to us," Phil said.  Phil and Doris are CTCs, CTIEs and MCCs, and long-standing "establishment" advocates.

The Davidoffs have been working with YTB to enhance its travel agent program along with another respected educator, Marc Mancini, who is assisting YTB in creating a comprehensive professional education and training program. "YTB is aggressively expanding its professional education program and we believe will produce productive and professional agents that will be a credit to the industry," Mancini said.
 
"Virtually every new business model that has been developed in the industry- cruise-only agents, franchise agents and home based-agents, for example- have been targeted for criticism, sometimes unfairly," Doris said. "YTB isn't perfect, but their management is moving to build on their strengths."

The Davidoffs stressed that they were advisors to YTB and that they maintain their independence. The two seminars on group travel, which they jointly presented, were attended by an estimated 450 at the first and 750 at the second.

"YTB is positioned to deliver market share to suppliers." Phil said. "As long-standing champions of professionalism for travel agents, we believe YTB has the power to become a major selling force. They are aggressively marketing travel. And given the sheer numbers involved, YTB will produce a lot of well trained agents.

"What we suggest is that agents keep an open mind toward YTB and its agents. There are lessons to be learned for all of us," Phil continued. "The real question is if they are expanding consumer demand for travel."

Let's Talk Pyramids

Okay...Let's Define What a Pyramid IS, and what a Pyramid "AIN'T"...okay? Okay!

A pyramid is a geometric structure. It has a strong base, and four faces that come to an apex, pointing straight up. Around the world we all might love to visit the Mayan, Peruvian, and Egyptian pyramids.

Those who built the pyramids were doing it for royalty.  Speaking of royalty, let's talk "Corporate America" versus "Independent Business Owner."

Corporate America might be called the ultimate pyramid of legal means. You have a CEO at the top, (just one) followed down the slope by vice presidents, middle managers,  and employees.

Who works the hardest and gets paid the least? The employees.
Who works the least and gets paid the most? The CEO

 That succeed pretty says it all. BUT, what about the Independent Business Owner?

They start from the base, and work their way up. Regardless of where they are financially or educationally, if a person comes to America or is born in America, they all have the opportunity to move ahead of the corporate game by having their OWN business. Thus, they get to be in a position to climb to the top of their own financial pyramid. This is legal, moral and ethical.

What network marketing is doing for people who understand the difference between never having an opportunity to better themselves, and learning from successful people how to better themselves is simply this:

If you work for someone else, you are keeping them at the top of their pyramid of dreams. If you work for yourself, you get to not only build your own, but show other people how to do it.

Corporate America limits you by your qualifications and "who you know."

 Independent business ownership is limited only by the mind and what you are willing to do.

Businesses like Primerica, YTB, Amway, Mary Kay, etc. take people no matter where they come from, and help them achieve to points as far as they choose to go. They do not limit individuals, they do not test them with entrance exams. They do not do drug testing or tell them when and where to take a vacation or how long they need to spend with their families.

When the CEO of the biggest oil company in the world reaches down to the janitor, the garbage collector, the groundskeeper or the cafeteria worker and says "I'm going to show you how to make as much money as you want, even more than I do"...then that will be the day we all better pinch ourselves because it will be nothing more than a hallucination.

 

Now, for the $6,000 guarantee. This is OPTIONAL.

Two sides to YTB Travel. The Referring Travel Agent (RTA) which has, as Director Von Nickleberry says, is the owner of a "Travel Vending Machine."  Do all the people who have soft drink machines have telephone numbers for you to call them up, place your order, and they go to their vending machine in their home office, put in $1.00, bag it up, get in their auto/vehicle, and deliver it like a pizza?

Of course not. They don't go to the Post Office or the UPS store and mail it to you either. Folks, change happens. Travel is ALREADY on the internet. It's not leaving. Why? Because people like shopping at home and the internet saves them money.

All YTB does for the RTA is say, "Listen, you're gonna buy those flowers, take that golf trip, attend that Indianapolis Colts game, see that rock concert, attend that wedding, visit that spa, buy that car, rent that limo, order those passports, take that European or China trip, have a honeymoon registry, purchase that travel insurance, take that cruise, get away from your crazy family for a last minute weekend and take that flight ANYWAY!

So, doesn't it make sense, even if your family and friends are still clueless about YTB to get paid a little sump'n sump'n back who won't give you diddly anyway? Doesn't it make sense to write it off on your taxes?

If you want to do about 10 minutes overtime a day, then SELL the travel store. That's the YTB REP position. (Independent Marketing Representative.)

There's is no fee to be a rep. If a rep don't work a rep don't get paid (bad english, just tryin' to make a point.)

Try going to a job and sitting around doin' nothing. YOU WILL NOT GET PAID! But unlike a job, YTB is optional. Even if you don't do jack, you still can get up off your bumpkins, go to work, and get paid without a boss telling you what to do.  But if you are going to sell a product, doesn't it make sense to OWN it and be your own best testimonial?

How can someone tell you how good a soul food restaurant is if all they ever ate was Chinese food?

So, doesn't it make sense to save 6 friends some money by telling them "I got a site, you can have one too?" And doesn't it make sense to get paid to sell a store to somebody you know who is looking for a way to not work so hard to make a living, just by saying, "hey, look at some resources in your bathrobe in the comfort of your home?"

Too busy? Then YTB is perfect. All you have to do is pass out your business cards, tell people to check out your website, and be a secret agent.

 

Get back with the person who told you about YTB, and stop thinking about what other people are saying because those people talking about YTB negatively, or anything else negatively, are doing what they do best.....NOTHIN'!

IATA Cards. Let's Get Real.

Never let it be said that the YTB Travel Booking Division never tackles RTA's questions head-on.

YTB has proven itself far more than professional, and provides absolutely INCREDIBLE support for all of YTB's RTAs.  As far as YTB is concerned, we never (that's right) NEVER lost our IATA number. We NEVER lost the ability to create travel commission, and we NEVER were "blacklisted."

We have ALWAYS had a CLIA number (which is now 00632144). In the past the CLIA, IATA and ARC numbers were all identical. All these numbers and credentials represent (and feel free to contact Will Coker at YTB or anyone else in the Travel Booking Department at World Headquarters in Wood River, IL) are the fact that we are travel professionals.

 

  
About IATA:
This group was founded in Havana, Cuba in the mid 1940s. IATA (International Air Transportation Association) is an international trade association/body that symboled a coming togehter of several international airline representatives. IATA in and of themselves have nothing to do with qualifying whether or not a thing is, or is not legal when it comes to exclusivity. The IATA card is an IDENTIFIER and has nothing to do with whether or not a company is "legit." 

As far as YTB's IATA number, it exists as it always has existed. But the member board of IATA just wants to take a little bit closer look at YTB, a publicly-traded company, because of a few complaints lodged by traditional travel agents who felt that YTB posed a threat to their livelihoods.

Bottom line, since 1997 travel agencies started going out of business. After 9/11, over 200,000 travel agents lost their jobs. Over 85 percent of people now book travel ONLINE!

All YTB ever did, as Expedia, Travelocity, Priceline and all the rest, is take advantage of those who book travel online anyway. Only the difference is this: YTB pays people who never used traditional travel agents the ability to book your own travel, get a confirmation, AND a check. Not to mention medical coverage, residual income for infintity, a support team that doesn't believe in hiding any information from anyone, and a group of administrative staff and founders who believe that people deserve to live the way they choose to live, not the way they are forced to live.

For RTAs who want to book direct with various hotels for travel discounts who do NOT have their RTA credentials--there is CCRA in the travel portal (behind your booking engine).

RTAs may also call hotels direct and giving them the YTB Booking ID number found on your credential. (Credentials are not available to RTAs who have not booked $1,500 worth of travel on their website, whether self travel/services or referred travel services, or via the commission claim form for condos, etc.(See "Go Condo at the TV Fun Blog link)  

Now no one can say "I never knew this."

Study the back office that costs less than a coke and a smile to run on a daily basis, and utilize the gem of your YTB support team both on and offline.
